The report

A report takes about an hour and never more than ninety minutes, on a fixed form of eight short sections: summary, question and contribution, data and identification, interpretation, presentation, ratings, recommendation, and confidential comments to the editors. You are asked for at most two reports a term, each due 21 days after you accept. Being in the pool does not oblige you to accept any particular invitation.

Referees comment on identification, economic reasoning, interpretation and presentation. Editorial and eligibility decisions, revisions and all correspondence with authors stay with the editorial team.

Anonymity

Review is anonymous in both directions. The handling editors do not know the author either; only the operations team does. Referees are credited in an annual acknowledgement unless they ask not to be, and are never identified to authors.
